The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) new Web Server provides a centralized directory of Internet accessible services from HHS, including data from the National Institutes of Health, Food and Drug Adminstration, and the Social Security Administration. Also available is a gopher server.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Gopher provides a broad range of information and services related to a variety of health issues.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Wonder (e-mail: WRH2@opsirm8.em.cdc.gov) is software for DOS-based microcomputers, designed for public health practitioners and researchers, that creates a fast and efficient link with databases from the National Center for Health Statistics, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Institute for Occupcational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and other sources of health-related data.

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Gopher provides information related to environmental health issues and research.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Gopher covers a broad range of topics related to WHO, including organizational directories, major programme descriptions, press releases, and resolution of UN agencies.

The Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition Web Server is the World Wide Web server for relevant information from the US Food and Drug Administration. Also available are:

The Hunger Web or World Hunger Gopher provides an interactive medium for general hunger education and a platform for detailed hunger information useful for researchers and other interested parties.

The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) new World-Wide Web Server provides access to 1) ATSDR's Organizational Guide, 2) ATSDR's Hazardous Substance Release/Health Effects Database (HazDat), and 3) the full text of Public Health Statements from ATSDR's Toxicological Profiles, with full search and retrieval capabilities.

The Bitnet/Internet Health Science Resources List (03/93) is a comprehensive list of health science resources available on the wide area networks, including listserv groups, Usenet groups, Freenets, Data Archives, Electronic Publications, and Health Science oriented databases. It includes gopher and WWW sites with many URL addresses, pointers to health related documents, a large E-Journal section, and electronic addresses for health libraries and state health departments. The ENVBEH-L (Listserver@POLYVM) is a forum on Environment and Human Behavior to encourage discussion on a variety of topics concerning the relations of people and their physical environment.

The OCC-ENV-MED-L (mailserv@MC.DUKE.EDU) provides a forum for announcements, dissemination of text files and academic discussion related to Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

The TDR-Scientists (tdr-scientists-REQUEST@who.ch) is a listserver for the UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases to propagate important public information and to encourage the exchange of ideas and information among scientists with expertise and interest in tropical diseases.

The AIDS_INTL (Listserv@RUTVM1) is a discussion list for the International Committee for Electronic Communications on AIDS (ICECA) to foster international coordination of electronic activities on AIDS.

Electronic Publications:

The Lyme Disease Electronic Mail Network (LYMENET-L) FTP Site is a bimonthly publication for scientific and patient communities that provides the latest research, treatment and political news about the Lyme disease epidemic.

Databases - Data Archives:

The CancerNet (e-mail: cancernet@icicb.nci.nih.gov) provides cancer information from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) including information statements from the NCI's Physician Data Query (PDQ) database, fact sheets on various cancer topics from the NCI's Office of Cancer Communications, and citations and abstracts on selected topics from CANCERLIT database.

The NIH Server contains several directories with files from the National Institutes of Health

Gophers:

The Comprehensive Epidemiological Data Resource (CEDR) Gopher is a directory of CEDR data and services made available by the Department of Energy (DOE) as part of its CEDR Program. DOE developed the CEDR Program to integrate and broaden access to epidemiologic data regarding the health consequences from occupational exposures to radiation. In the future, databases will be added concerning other radiation exposures.

The NIAID - National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (email: CDW@NIAID.NIH.GOV) provides a wide variety of information for research on allergies and infectious diseases.
