Alaska Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer Data Set

The Alaska Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) Data Set is a semimonthly composited data set of AVHRR 1-km data produced by the U.S. Geological Survey's Earth Resources Observation Systems Data Center (EDC). Production began in 1990. Each annual set of data provides maximum Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) composited data sets for twice-monthly periods of the Alaska growing season (April-October). Each semimonthly composite includes 10 coregistered images that include the maximum NDVI greenness value for each pixel area during the compositing period.

The U.S. Geological Survey's Global Land Information System (GLIS) provides additional information on the characteristics of the Alaska AVHRR data set and procedures for obtaining the data.
