ACCOUNTANTS' COMPILATION REPORT

Alternative Fluorocarbons Environmental Acceptability Study

In connection with the research program being conducted by the Alternative Fluorocarbons Environmental Acceptability Study, we have, at your request, compiled the following schedules of production and sales data for HCFC-22 from responses furnished to us by participating companies. The accompanying notes are an integral part of this report.

Schedule 1

- Listing of Reporting Companies

Schedule 2

- Total Production of HCFC-22 on an Annual Basis for the Period 1970 Through 1992 from Reporting Companies

Schedule 3

- Estimated Error by Year in Total Production of HCFC-22 for the Years 1970

Schedule 4

- Total HCFC-22 Sales by Category for the Years 1980 Through 1992 from Reporting Companies

Schedule 5

- Total HCFC-22 Sales by Region for the Period 1980 Through 1992 from Reporting Companies

We have compiled these tabulations from questionnaires submitted directly to us from the chemical manufacturers solicited by the Alternative Fluorocarbons Environmental Acceptability Study for 1991 and 1992, and from the prior accountants' report dated February 20, 1992 for the years 1970 through 1990. We made no attempt to verify independently the information submitted in the questionnaires or in the prior report.

Notes to Production and Sales of HCFC-22

Note 1

Reported Production Amounts

These amounts exclude any non-dispersive uses of HCFC-22 as feedstock for other chemical products. Fugitive emissions from the chemical processing are taken into account via estimates using a methodology provided by Dr. Donald Fisher of E.I. Du Pont de Nemours & Company, Inc.

Reported production amounts are determined by adding opening inventory, production, estimated fugitive emissions and purchases from co-producers, subtracting sales to co-producers, closing inventory and amounts used or sold for chemical intermediates. The resulting figure is equal to sales.

Chemiewerke Nünchritz GmbH and subsidiary (Germany) and Societe des Industries Chimiques du Nord de la Grece (Greece) reported data for the first time in 1990. Prior production by these companies is not included in this report.

Note 2

Method of Error Calculation

Estimated error was calculated using the square root of the sum of the squares of the estimated error for each respondent.
