Main Page | Request Software License | Download | Departmental Support | FAQs | Admin Service Plan | Resources

The Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) at Columbia University administers the Esri-Columbia Educational Site License agreement. Departments can sign up as Sub-Licensees (Columbia University Esri Product Sub-licensee) to gain access Esri software, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcMap, ArcGIS Enterprise, and other Esri products.

The GIS and Computing Services Center at CIESIN provides accounting support for the following activities within Columbia University:

  • Management of GIS software site licenses
  • Provision of computing equipment to projects in support of GIS and related computing
  • Technical and administrative assistance in support of GIS and related computing.

The Admin Service Plan describes the services associated with an account, how the services are carried out, and how fees are established. After reviewing the Service Plan, return to the main page for the steps involved in participating.

Services

Licensing/Distribution of GIS Software and Data.

ArcGIS Desktop Advanced Concurrent Use and/or ArcGIS Enterprise (formerly ArcGIS Server)

Concurrent use licenses allow users to gain access to the software from any computer on the network that has the software installed. A license server manager administers a pool of licenses to be shared. ArcGIS Enterprise allows you to share your GIS resources across an enterprise and across the web. ArcGIS Desktop Advanced Single use licenses are also included.

ArcGIS Desktop Advanced Single Use Only

Single use licenses generally restrict use of a software product to one user/machine. A single use license must be dedicated for each computer that has use rights for the software, data, or documentation. ArcGIS Desktop Advanced Single Use Only includes ArcGIS Pro Advanced and/or (upon request) ArcMap Advanced.

ArcGIS Pro Advanced includes the following extensions:

3D Analyst, Aviation Airports, Aviation Charting, Bathymetry, Business Analyst, Data Interoperability, Data Reviewer, Defense Mapping, Geostatistical Analyst, Image Analyst, Locate XT, Location Referencing, Maritime, Network Analyst, Production Mapping, Publisher, Spatial Analyst, Workflow Manager
ArcMap Advanced additional extensions:
ArcGIS for Aviation: Charting, ArcGIS Tracking Analyst, Aviation: Airports, Maritime: Bathymetry, Maritime: Charting, Roads and Highways, Schematics

An individual ArcGIS Online account comes with every ArcGIS Pro Advanced license and can be requested by individual users accessing an ArcGIS Desktop Concurrent Use license. In addition to the software, contributing University units will receive limited technical assistance to support installing and configuration of the software, upgrades as they are made available, and access to Esri E-Learning, which provides introductory training and applications courses online for free. All software documentation is provided digitally along with program media.

Limited Technical Support Services for GIS

Technical support is provided via email, expert referrals, and follow-up with Esri on selected issues.

Service Level/Rate

The annual fee schedule corresponds with the Columbia University fiscal year. If you join after the fiscal year has begun, fees are pro-rated on a monthly basis. Licenses of Esri software and associated services may be purchased through CIESIN at the following rates, which are determined by service level:

With ArcGIS Desktop Advanced Single Use Only, many licenses can be issued with each user having an individual license. With ArcGIS Desktop Advanced Concurrent Use and/or ArcGIS Enterprise (formerly ArcGIS Server), many licenses can be issued, with either one license able to serve multiple users simultaneously, like in a computer lab, or each user having an individual license.

In addition to these services, each licensee gets access to limited technical support via an applications specialist, system administrator, and GIS specialists.
