Principal Investigator Title Start Date Stop Date Purpose
Varuni Kulasekera Year 2001 West Nile Virus Adult Mosquito Surveillance 5/15/2001 10/31/2001 To protect public health by preventing and outbreak of West Nile Virus (WNV). This is part of a comprehensive program to monitor adult mosquitoes for the detection of WNV throughout New York City, including Jamaica Bay Unit and Staten Island Unit of Gateway NRA. The isolation of WNV in vector mosquitoes from Gateway NRA, along with the increasing probability of a human outbreak, may lead to the use of adult-mosquito control methods. Any control efforts will be in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Epidemic/Epizootic West Nile Virus in the United States: Revised Guidelines for the Surveillance, Prevention and Control and with National Park Service Policy.
